Angelos Plataniotis, PhD
Angelos Plataniotis has been working at the Bank of Greece since 2015, within the Occupational and Private Insurance Supervision Directorate, where he specializes in prudential supervision and the assessment of both climate-related risks faced by insurance undertakings and the degree to which they integrate ESG factors into their operations. Prior to his supervisory role, he gained extensive corporate and risk management experience, working as an Operational Risk Management Officer at a multinational Life Insurance company and as a Financial Auditor at a Big4 firm, specializing in the financial sector. In his current capacity, he participates in relevant EIOPA working groups and contributes to policy-relevant analysis at both national and European levels.
In parallel, Angelos is a Post-doctoral Researcher, focusing on the analysis of environmental and public health risks under combined climate and geopolitical instability. He holds a PhD in Economics from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, where his doctoral research integrated econometric and machine learning methods to evaluate sustainable development policies and ESG impacts. His academic background also includes Master degrees in Applied Economics and Finance, as well as Bioinformatics, and a Bachelor in Statistics and Actuarial-Financial Mathematics.
Angelos is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and holds the Professional Degree of Certified Public Accountants from the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Greece (SOEL). Furthermore, he has co-authored numerous publications on the European Green Deal, SDG policy analysis, and climate adaptation frameworks. He has actively participated as both a contributor and researcher in various EU-funded programs (such as Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe) and has also served as an Independent Expert Evaluator for Horizon Europe (CINEA).
